Vitamin E Contributes to Longevity

People are living longer and longer these days. If you want to be healthy enough to enjoy your golden years, then you need to do everything you can to maintain your good health. This includes following a healthy diet, getting plenty of exercise, and avoiding bad habits such as smoking. Smoking can contribute to the development of health complications such as heart disease, degenerative brain disorder, and strokes.

Vitamin E Contributes to LongevityHowever, quitting smoking is a very challenging endeavor. If you’ve tried to quit many times and have, as yet, been unable to, then taking vitamin supplements may reduce some of the damage that smoking causes. An article in the journal Age and Aging reported on a study that measured the effects of Vitamin E on mortality. They found that older men who smoked less than a pack a day and took vitamin E in conjunction with vitamin C lived two years longer than men who didn’t. This study included 11,000 participants which the researchers studied over 8 years.

Dietary sources of vitamin E include green leafy vegetables, broccoli, olives, avocados, seeds, seed oil, and nuts. Supplements are also an excellent way to obtain the vitamins and nutrients you may be missing from your diet.
