How to Counteract Fatigue While Dieting

This article is for all of you avid dieters out there who are tired of being on a diet. The key word here is “tired!” Let’s face it; dieting can equal fatigue, tiredness, lethargy and no energy! Why do we keep putting ourselves through these things over and over again just to lose a few pounds? There are many reasons why we can feel so much fatigue when we are dieting, and there are a few things you can do to feel less tired and more energetic while you are on a diet.

  1. You feel tired because you are putting your body through a big change. Our bodies were designed to be efficient at whatever we do and whenever you change your eating habits and activity level, you body has to work to get used to your new routines.
a.Counteract by drinking lots of water and green tea. The water will help flush energy-sucking toxins out of your system and the green tea contains a healthier amount of caffeine than coffee, which you are probably not allowed to drink on your diet. Plus, green tea helps fight sickness and disease, which you are more prone to when you are tired.
  2. You feel tired because you didn’t stick to the diet long enough. Be honest with yourself here. How many diets have you been on? Do you give up when it gets tough? No matter what the diet is, you will feel some level of fatigue in the first couple of weeks. Give your body time to get used to your new way of eating.
a.Counteract by asking for help from a trusted friend or family member. Having some extra accountability during this time can help you to stay with the diet and make it through to the end. You may also find it helpful to write down your goals and share them with your family and friends, so they can encourage you to reach them.
  3. You feel tired because your body isn’t getting enough nutrients. Too many diets provide eating plans that don’t include enough of the essential vitamins and minerals that you need to get through the day.
a.Counteract this with taking a good multi-vitamin and make sure you are eating foods that have natural sources of vitamins in them. Look more closely at that eating plan and see if there are more choices than you think.
  4. You are tired because you may not be getting enough exercise. This one may sound a bit fishy, but if you are only dieting and not exercising, your lack of activity could be all that is dragging you down. Sure, you feel tired after working out, but it is a very different kind of tired. It’s a good tired.
a.Counteract by making a doable fitness routine to do every week. If you feel intimidated by the thought of exercise, start slow and work your way up from there.
