The phrase “beauty is in the eye of the beholder” is all well and good, however do people really want to look old before their time? Proper skin care can take years off of a person’s appearance. What people don’t realize is that the skin is a living, breathing, part of the body. It can be radiant and smooth with just a few extra steps per day.

First off, remember to properly wash your face. This process involves using a cleanser designed for your skin type, oily or dry. It doesn’t mean the $50 a bottle stuff, something from the local drug store will do. Be sure to use only warm water, as hot or cold may damage the capillaries under the skin causing red streaks on the face. The next step is moisturizer, whether you have dry skin or oily skin always use a moisturizer. There are different types for different skin tones, so find the one for yours. Pat your face when you dry it. No rubbing as this can damage the skin. Ladies, remember to always use proper makeup remover when necessary.

Overall skin protection starts with sunscreen. Wear a light sunscreen, SPF 15, everyday that you will be outside for any length of time. Even in Winter, sunscreen should be worn. Some dermatologists recommend wearing it for even the brief trip to the office and back home again. They point out that just because the sun isn’t “shining bright above” doesn’t mean that you’re not exposed to Ultraviolet rays that will damage the skin and can lead to Cancer.

Which leads us to the next tip, smoking. Don’t smoke, as this can age your skin 10 times faster than normal as well as bring on wrinkles around the mouth and eyes faster. Smoking decreases the size of the blood vessels which then decreases the vitamins to the parts of the skin. This reduces the elasticity and collagen in the skin. This process is set into motion within the first year of smoking and can be seen within the first 10 years. So the average 30 year old smoker, who started smoking at age 20, will look more like they are 40 years old.

One, last, simple step to healthy skin is drinking water. The human body is made up largely of water. The skin needs to stay hydrated in order to maintain elasticity and rid itself of toxins that cause blemishes and discoloration. The basic amount of water is 8 (8oz) glasses of water a day. Don’t try to drink it all at once, spread it out over the course of the day. If you are thirsty, that means you are already dehydrated, so start drinking. Try this, over the next week, drink a minimum of 10 (8oz) glasses of water per day and keep away from caffeinated drinks as much as possible. Watch the transformation in your skin. You may want to take a before and after picture to prove the results of this experiment.

Just a few small steps a day can keep your skin looker younger and healthier. As much as we would like to believe that beauty is more than skin deep, society shows us the advantages of looker younger and have smooth, flawless skin. The ability to have this is in your hands. Just follow these steps and your skin will thank you.

One of the most important things for people to do during their lifetime is to play sports. Not only is this a great way to meet new people but it also helps people lose weight and stay in shape. Playing sports does not always have to be with an organized team in an official league. All it takes is a simple phone call to your friends to get a fun game of basketball, touch football, or baseball going. Playing sports can also help young children meet other kids their own age all while developing character, friendship, and learning how to deal with adversity that comes with playing a team sport.

As important as socializing is to a person’s overall state of mental health and well-being, a person’s physical health is just as important. It is vitally important to a child’s health and overall view on life to learn how to take care of oneself at a young age when it comes to health and fitness. If a child goes through his or her childhood thinking its ok to eat everything in sight and sit around playing video games all day then they will more than likely have trouble exercising when they are older.

In fact, playing sports does not even have to include playing a semi-organized game with a bunch of people. Instead, the game can occur with one, two, or three family members in the backyard every now and then or just yourself every now and then. If you want to head outside and shoot hoops on your own then do so. If you want to head outside, setup the goalie’s net and kick the soccer ball around, then do so. These things can be done on one’s own with little assistance from others. Playing sports can really help young children stay healthy and help them enjoy their youth all at the same time.

How many times within the past month have you gotten exercise? Be honest with yourself. If the number is less than 12 you should be concerned. Even in today’s fast-paced world people should be able to work out or exercise at least three times per week, which turns out to be 12 times per month if you go by four full weeks in a month. Even the number 12 might be too low. If you can work out four times per week then you should be in tiptop shape and your health should be fantastic. One way to work out each week could be playing sports. You might not realize it but you can have fun and lose weight all at the same time. Call your buds up once a week and play a game of pickup basketball. If you do not like basketball, play tennis, touch football, or hockey. Find something you like and make it happen at least once per week. Golf does not count here. The activity needs to be something that will get your heart pumping. It needs to be some form of cardio and any sport that revolves around running or skating will take care of that requirement. If you play sports, in an organized league or on your street, you will see the pounds disappear and your health improve.

Makeover games are just for girls anymore. Women can get use out of them as well. You may be wondering what you can use makeover games for and how they work. It’s really not as odd as it may sound and many women are using them today to try on new looks

What are Makeover Games

Makeover games can be done on a computer or with a group of women or girls. They can try on new looks and new hairstyles without leaving their home. One way that makeover games work is in person. This is one another person changes the way they look by changing their hair or adding different makeup than the other person may normally wear. This kind of makeover game can be fun if the person that’s getting the makeover doesn’t know what they will look like when it’s done. The problem with this kind of makeover game is that the look could be more permanent then they if they used the online version. This is because they may choose to change the hairstyle or color and may add makeup that the person getting the makeover would never use. If the person getting the makeover doesn’t want any kind of permanent changes they may want to think about not getting this kind of makeover and using the online makeover game. That way they will be happiest with the outcome and not be bound to it if it’s something they don’t like.

Another type of makeover game is done online. These games are gaining in popularity because all you need to do is upload a photo into the game and then you can change the way the hair and makeup look on the person. This can help them to try on different colors of hair and many different styles that they may not be willing to try and have the possibility of a permanent look.

Why Use Makeover Games

Anyone who is considering a makeover game may want to think about what they will look like. When they use a makeover game online, they’re not bound to any looks for any amount of time if they don’t like a look they can just delete it and move on. If they decide to use this kind of game to try out new looks, they can experience colors that are kind of different and that they may never have even looked at before. This can also make the game more fun for them and anyone that may be playing it with them.

There are many people that may decide they want to use makeover games. This is a great idea to find out about looks that they may not ever thought of. If the person that is thinking about the makeover game is not sure about how it works for if it’s something they really want to do, they should do a little research on what makeover games really are. That way they will know exactly what they’re doing and be able to have the most fun with the makeover game possible.

Over 20 percent of Americans don’t know they have it because signs and symptoms are largely unnoticeable, but high blood pressure is an extremely dangerous condition that can contribute to many life-altering or fatal diseases. Most notably, high blood pressure is a factor that can lead to heart disease, which the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) peg as the leading cause of death in the United States. Strokes, blindness, and kidney disease and failure may also result from high blood pressure. It is imperative that blood pressure remains controlled and in check in order to avoid these outcomes. That can be accomplished in several ways, all of which should be worked out initially with a primary care physician.

Perhaps the easiest and most direct way an individual can control his or her blood pressure is by maintaining a healthy lifestyle. That involves regular exercise and consuming a healthy diet of nutritious food. People raise their blood pressure by being obese or overweight, which involves having a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or higher and 25 to 29.9, respectively. To remain at a normal weight, one should have a BMI between 18 and 24.9. Being active and eating healthy will help reach that target and lower blood pressure.

Fitting in daily exercise does not have to be a hassle. According to the Surgeon General, a simple 30 minutes of activity per day is all that is required to maintain a solid workout regimen. This can be accomplished through a simple run in the morning or aerobic workout when getting home from work. And, of course, it doesn’t hurt to do more than the minimum and hit the gym for a more thorough, full-body workout.

Eating right is also easy to do. Instead of eating junk food that has high levels of sodium, saturated fats and cholesterol, one should add lots of fresh fruits and vegetables to his or her diet. Additionally, alcohol intake should also be done in moderation. According to the CDC, “Excessive alcohol consumption is related to increased blood pressure.” As a result, women should have no more than one drink per day and men should have two or less.

Smoking should also be completely eliminated. An incredibly bad habit, smoking has been linked to strokes and heart disease. Quitting should take place immediately for those that already partake in smoking to lower those risks.

For those that already have high blood pressure, they can seek medical guidance for medication to help lower it. Combined with a healthy lifestyle, prescribed medication can help control blood pressure and be varied by the doctor based on subsequent changes. Medication can be especially helpful for those that have a genetic history of high blood pressure in their family.

High blood pressure is a serious matter that should be taken as such by everybody to ensure you are not affected by potentially fatal diseases later on. Keeping your blood pressure in check with regular doctor visits is the first step. But maintaining a healthy lifestyle through exercise and proper diet, along with not smoking, monitoring alcohol intake and taking medication if required, is the best way to keep blood pressure in check.

Exercising is an important part of every person’s life because it helps people maintain their weight and live a healthy life. If you do not exercise, you should begin to do so immediately. Exercising helps to get your heart pumping, which helps to burn fat from your body. Exercising should include any activity that is considered a cardio work out. A cardio work out will make your heart work extra hard to pump blood throughout the body, which helps the body lose weight. An excellent cardio work out, used by millions of people each day across the country, is to swim. Swimming gets the heart rate going and is fun to do all while losing weight.

Aquatic exercises are used by kids, adults, seniors and people rehabbing any injuries in their body. Of the groups of people who use aquatic exercises to lose weight, senior citizens are the most active group to do so. Head to your local senior center or community center that has a pool and you will see quite a handful of senior citizens swimming in the pool for exercise each day. They either swim on their own during open swim or take various swimming classes to stay healthy or to loosen up their limbs while under the water.

Aquatic exercises, for all ages, are not only used for losing weight but also to strengthen the muscles in a person’s legs, thighs, buttocks and abdomen. There is less stress placed on a person’s joints when exercising in water, which makes it easier to move around and do some exercises that might not be able to be completed out of water. If you exercise in water that comes up to your neck, your body is only supporting 10 percent of your body weight. When you are exercising in water, if you feel any of the following signs of fatigue, let a lifeguard or therapist know:

Trouble catching your breath or short of breath

Faint, lightheaded, or dizzy

Nausea

Red faced or the feeling of being flushed

Pain or pressure in the chest or upper body

Weakness or suddenly feel tired

Pounding heart or irregular heart beat

Confusion or loss of sense of direction

If you are looking to get the most out of your aquatic exercise then you should work out at your target heart rate. You can figure out your target heart rate by doing the following:

Subtract your age from 220

Then subtract your Resting Heart Rate

Multiply this number by .6

Then add your Resting Heart Rate

Multiply the result from step 2 by .8

Add your Resting Heart Rate

There are various types of aquatic exercises for people of all ages and all experiences. If you are a beginner, you will want to use beginner exercises. The next step up is intermediate and the last level is advanced. No one should begin using advanced workouts right off the bat. Slowly work your way to the top.

So, you are having a baby! Congratulations. Now that the easy part of actually producing the baby is out of the way, the hard part is coming up – actually having it. The life of a family changes drastically when a baby is on the way. But that’s not meant to sound like a bad thing. Babies are a blessing and worth the hassle involved in preparing for their arrival.

When preparing for the baby, two separate modes of preparation come into play – preparing for the baby’s birth and preparing for the baby upon its arrival.

When preparing for the actual birth of the baby, that is simply making sure you and your family are prepared for the nine months of pregnancy ahead. It is not just about worrying how things will change once the baby is born. You have to make sure you stay on task until you get to that point. Such things as keeping up with regularly scheduled doctor appointments, preparing your hospital bag and having an emergency plan intact in case there are complications are key factors in insuring the successful birth of a healthy boy or girl.

For the mother, special accommodations should be made over the course of the ninth-month term to ensure that the baby is receiving healthy care inside the womb. The consumption of healthy foods and the avoidance of smoking, alcohol and use of other drugs is very important.

Once you are sure that your plans for a safe arrival are met, then it is time make sure there is a warm and nurturing environment for the baby to come home to. Turning a room into a nursery for the baby is necessary. And while that can be expensive, holding a baby showering and registering at a retail outlet such as Babies R Us can help alleviate the cost of such things as a crib, stroller, car seat and baby clothes.

Be sure you are stocked up on diapers and formula. You will be buying them like crazy and you cannot afford to run out of them. Also, baby proof the entire house. The new addition will be a handful and you need to make sure every single precaution is taken to make sure he or she is safe even when you are not directly on top of him or her. By setting up gates all around the house, you can restrict the dangerous areas of the house where the baby can get hurt the most.

If this is not your first rodeo and you already have a child at home, do not neglect to speak with him or her about the new brother or sister enter the house. Depending on age and the amount of children already in the household, it is never clear just how the siblings will react to somebody else crowding the house and stealing your attention.

Having a baby a tremendous event for any family. But the work just begins at getting pregnant. Not it is time to prepare for the nine months ahead, and the 18 years after that. Following these tips can help you get ready for your new arrival.

Getting a good night’s sleep is critical to your health and ability to properly function throughout the day. Unfortunately, too many people simply do not get enough sleep throughout the day. Countless Americans suffer from over 70 different sleep disorders and around 60 percent of adults fail to get the proper amount of sleep over the course of a week because of these problems. Exactly how much sleep one needs depends on the individual. While on average, it is figured that people need eight hours to sleep to recover from the previous and be prepared for the next one ahead. But some can work just fine with only six hours of sleep per night while other need no less than 10 hours of sleep to reach their maximum potential.

In a society that is so fast-paced and responsibility filled, it is easy to understand why so many people often work with a severe lack of sleep. But not getting proper sleep can take a physical and mental toll, and will undoubtedly lead to an accident later on.

The first measure to take in tackling this problem is to try and understand why you are not getting the right amount of sleep. If you are not sleeping because you choose to stay up late, then that is a personal decision and should be changed. However, if you try to fall asleep and wake up tossing and turning all night, there might be a deeper problem that requires medical consultation.

Whether your lack of sleep is a result of a personal choice or medical problem, there are steps you can take to help get you on the right track to a proper night’s sleep. One of the most important things you can do is develop a sleep schedule. Getting your body into a routine will help you fall asleep at the same time more easily. On the flipside, try to wake up at the same time every day, as well, so that your body can become acquainted with a routine. In order to make sure you can hit the sack at the same time every night, you will need to also schedule your other priorities and have them done before your scheduled sleep time. And overall mapping out of your week ahead is an exceptional way to make sure you remain on task and are able to get to bed on time.

Also, avoid consuming food and beverages just prior to going to bed that will only aid in keeping you awake. Avoid caffeine within six hours of your bedtime and lower your intake of it overall throughout the day. Also, do not smoke, drink or eat big just before going to bed.

Minimizing distractions is key in falling sleep properly, as well. If you leave the TV on or have an outside light blinding you through the window, falling asleep will be extremely difficult. Reducing the noise around you will provide for a more soothing environment conducive to drifting away to sleep.

Having trouble getting the proper amount of sleep is not uncommon. Many people experience problems getting the at least eight hours of shut-eye most need on average for a healthy sleep. But the advice of your doctor and some simple steps to keep you on schedule and avoid distractions will help increase your ability to gain more sleep throughout the night.

Watching our loved ones grow old and less independent in accommodating their own needs can be a sad thing to watch. It is hard to watch people that helped us grow up into responsible adults gradually need our help for them to accomplish even the simplest tasks. But that is the way life goes, and dealing with the elderly is a sensitive, yet important, topic to discuss.

In many instances, the elderly either will not realize that they need help or will simply refuse it to maintain their independence and dignity. But in looking out for their well-being, it may be required to treat them a little bit like children. After all, their safety and security is paramount over their ego.

Perhaps the first assumption about elderly people is that they need to be tossed into old-age homes. That is an option, of course. But it is not the only one. Instead, they may still live on their own as independent people. Precautions should just be taken to ensure that they have the right tools and information to live on their own. For example, constantly reminding them to avoid strangers that could take advantage of them and making sure there are plenty of phones nearby is a good way to keep their safety and security at the forefront. Purchasing a gadget that dials 9-1-1 at the hit of a button is a great idea, too. Consider installing rails around the house to avoid falls, especially in the shower or tub. Also make sure to check in on them at least three times a day, or have somebody you trust do so in your place if you are unable to.

If you still fear that leaving an elderly parent at home by himself or herself can be dangerous, perhaps you can accommodate them at your home. By having them live with you, you can take the proper precautions to set up your home so that it is safe for them. More importantly, you will have the peace of mind in knowing that there is constant supervision, which could require the hiring of a caretaker.

If you do choose to place an elderly family member into a home, do some research ahead of time to learn about the reputation of nearby facilities. Selecting one that is close to you is ideal. But the most important factor is making sure your loved ones will be taken care of around the clock with expert care from a qualified staff of nurses and doctors. The institution you choose should also have plenty of activities for enjoyment and house plenty of other elderly people that can be gotten along with easily.

None of these choices are simple to make, but the options do exist for dealing with the elderly in your family. It is a sensitive subject, but as parents get older, they are less able to handle their own responsibilities. They need assistance, whether they wish to have it or not. Whether that is through constant checkups from you while living alone, being moved into your home or setting up into an old-age home, the decision should be the most comfortable for you and the elderly parent you are dealing with.

Nowadays, a large majority of Americans seek a college education in hopes of better arming themselves in the competitive job market later on. Although a degree is not an absolute necessity to find good and respectable work, it certainly helps give an edge to those seeking employment in various fields. Once you have made the personal decision that going to college is in your best interest, the next step is determining just where to spend the next 2-4 years of your life furthering your education.

Many factors come into play when choosing the proper university for your standards. The important of each is different for each person, with some factors outranking others. But generally speaking, the right college will offer prime location near potential job opportunities upon graduation, affordable tuition and housing (if you live on campus), and a catalog of respected programs that best match your future career goals.

When deciding upon a location, two things must initially be considered. Do you wish to commute or live on campus? Also, are you more inclined to remain in state or are you open to out-of-state options? Commuters reduce their choices significantly to in-state institutions within 30-45 minutes of their permanent residence, but room and board expenses are eliminated. Those that wish to live on campus have a wider away of options but may still reduce the cost of their schooling by remaining in state, as most universities have a higher tuition rate for out-of-state residents.

Once you figure out how far away you are willing to go for your college education, you can focus more on the location of the college itself. Colleges near big cities like New York, Philadelphia and Los Angeles are popular choices. But wherever you go, there should be a known connection between the university and its surrounding communities to ensure that there are local employment options when it’s time to put that degree you worked hard for to good use.

Before getting to post-graduate life, you have to decide the field of study you wish to pursue. Many students enter college without a decided major. But having a plan in mind with one or two backups is always wise. For example, if you enjoy writing, majoring in journalism, English or education are excellent options. By having a specific or general idea of what you wish to study, make sure to research schools that offer respectable programs pertaining to those fields. It would make little sense for a student interested in studying engineering to attend a university with a poor reputation in sciences. With help from your guidance counselor, online resources and even direct communication with the university itself, do plenty of research to make sure you are confident in the quality of education and selection of extra-curricular activities offered by your chosen school.

Finding the right college that meets your needs is a task that requires proper research, and plenty of time and patience. But it is just the first step in a rewarding experience that will help prepare you for the rest of your adult life.

In the fast-paced world we live in today, dealing with stress on an almost endless-basis is unavoidable. Everybody has to handle multiple responsibilities on a concurrent basis. It is easy to eventually become bogged down by having to focus on too many tasks with not enough time to work through all of them. Kids in school and college are inundated with exorbitant amounts of work both inside and outside of the classroom. Working parents must find a way to balance making money to provide for their families while still setting aside quality time. Even those with no family obligations can still tend to get wrapped up in their work with the never-ending pile of projects they undertake.

This pressure to constantly produce will almost always lead to the feeling of being stressed. A little stress is never a bad thing. Having some pressure can be a motivation for making sure you take care of your responsibilities. But the tolls too much stress can take on one’s life are severe. Physically, you can experience a loss of sleep, increased incidence of head and stomachaches, as well as heart disease and high blood pressure. Mentally, you may become depressed or angrier with those around you. To help combat this, you might pick up bad habits, such as smoking and drinking. And your relationship might suffer, as well.

But there are better ways to alleviate stress before it severely impacts your health and the interactions you have with others. Planning your weeks, prioritizing and remaining active in a positive way are key factors in reducing stress that might otherwise take over your life.

In order to fully take control over responsibilities before they take control over you, scheduling your tasks for the upcoming week is a splendid way to grasp what needs to be accomplished. Every Sunday evening, take some time to jot down duties you know need to be taken care of for the following Monday through Saturday. This can include reminders of when bills need to be paid, when term papers are due or when the kids have certain after school activities. By having this information conveniently mapped out, you will be better suited to handle whatever comes your way.

Additionally, know what tasks are more important than others. By doing the smaller things first and leaving the heavier tasks for later, you are only inviting a more pressure-filled situation down the line. Instead, make sure you are taking care of the big stuff as soon as required by giving precedence to such responsibilities as financial commitments, family needs, and school or work assignments. Activities such as team sports or family vacations are secondary to more important obligations.

Once those obligations are taken care of, however, you do also need to take some time out to focus on your mental and physical well-being. Taking time for leisurely activity will do wonders in combating stress. Remaining healthy through a balanced diet and keeping active is a great way to counter the effects of stress. Exercises particularly focused on relaxing, such as yoga, put you at ease and re-invigorate you for the challenges ahead.

Life can be hectic and stress just comes with the territory. But you can alleviate stress and prevent it from taking over by simply preparing yourself for you responsibilities, prioritizing those responsibilities and keeping yourself in the best mental and physical shape you possibly can.
